How does facebook and twitter relate to a global village?

Take the uprising in Egypt for example. Widespread dissatisfaction among the people had no way of solidifying until Facebook and Twitter came along. People start realizing there are thousands that feel the same way they do and they organize a mass protest just by typing some words into their hand held devices and within a month, they've overthrown a 30 year regime. They reach out to people all over the world by means of the internet and find support. There were even Egyptians coming onto Yahoo Answers under the Travel/Egypt category asking for help from other, ordinary citizens of other countries. The authorities in Egypt realize this is too big to suppress so Mubarek is forced to resign. For a month, Egypt was a global village.
